529 Day recognizes the importance of saving for future education expenses, and the benefits of doing so with a tax-advantaged 529 account.*
Alaska 529 partnered with ten ice cream vendors in Anchorage, Eagle River, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kodiak, and Wasilla to offer a free treat or scoop of ice cream courtesy of Alaska 529. By the end of the day, over 8,928 free scoops of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and ice cream sandwiches had been given out statewide!
Lael Oldmixon, Alaska 529’s Executive Director said, “529 Day is when we remind families about the importance of saving for their child’s future and the benefits of investing with a 529 plan. The ice cream giveaway is a way of giving back to our communities and thanking them for the commitment they’re making to our future generations by saving for future education expenses.”
In conjunction with 529 Day, Alaska 529 is also celebrating the launch of the Dash to Save™ incentive program, in which the plan is pitching in $250 contributions to the first 5,000 new accounts this calendar year.§ The plan currently has $658 million invested for over 33,000 account holders.**
